Clicking the Clear Brushstroke button on the property bar removes not only the brushstroke but also the outline properties of the object. If the object also had no fill properties, it won’t be visible until you increase the Outline width and/or add a fill.

Another way to bring nested groups or single objects into focus is by double-clicking on them with the Pick tool. Any new objects created will be added to the group currently in focus.
